Phew!  Before Monday's blog about the new kindergarten, it had been a good long minute since our last post.  Sorry for the sudden absence, folks!

If you have visited us here at High Hopes recently, you may already have an idea of what has kept us away from the blogosphere this month.  If not, allow us to give you a sneak peek of the rooms that were our offices until last week…

As you can see, there are quite a few changes happening for us here at 301 High Hopes Court.  You may recall from a previous post our plan to convert our administrative offices into feeding therapy spaces.  Well, that’s what’s going on right now!  Those spaces are being transformed before our very eyes, as we continue to keep things running all around it.

We are also converting the current staff breakroom...

The school year approaches, and it’s time to start thinking about kindergarten. We understand many questions can come to mind in the process of preparing your child, and yourself, for that first year in “big school.” The overarching question: With so many options available, where should we go? As of this year, High Hopes is officially tossing our name into that discussion. In this post, we will outline what our kindergarten will look like – the practical application and benefits of a truly inclusive model of education, the experience and knowledge provided by a highly qualified staff, the deep level of resources available to ensure each child’s complete success, and of course all the fun we’re going to have!

This past weekend was a sunny, hot reminder that summer is well on its way in Middle Tennessee!  With summer comes a vacation from school for many kids, and that means more free time for them to find ever more creative ways to alleviate their boredom. Of course, the outdoors are every parent's best friend during these burning summer months (with proper sunscreen application, naturally), but what about those rainy days?  What about the days that are too hot for even the toughest of kids to enjoy playing outside?  What about the days when EVEN OUTSIDE isn't enough to entertain those growing, inquisitive minds? Have no fear!  We have a few ideas...

Since its founding in 1931, the Nashville Children’s Theatre has been a staple of Nashville fine arts and education.  In addition to performing and entertaining throughout each year, they host and run programs to nurture and educate their target audience: children and young adults throughout Middle Tennessee! Today, the Nashville Children’s Theatre remains an active and conscientious member of the Nashville and Middle Tennessee community. Knowing the history and the inclusive, educational values of this organization, we thought it’d be fun to go check out one of their performances… with a member of their target audience! So we took Aldyn to their latest production...

On April 29th, Music City’s own minor league baseball team the Nashville Sounds will face the New Orleans Baby Cakes in their 12th home game of the season, and High Hopes will be the Charity of the Game! During last year’s 2017 season, the Charity of the Game promotion hosted 30 local nonprofits at various home games, and now High Hopes will take its turn.  The game begins at 1:05 PM on a Sunday afternoon, and it promises to be a fun and entertaining afternoon for all! Learn more about the Sounds and this opportunity to show your support for High Hopes in this post...

Coordinated by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the Week of the Young Child is a nation-wide celebration of early childhood education.  This annual celebration draws attention to the importance of early childhood education and increases awareness of what that entails, while at the same time encouraging a whole lot of good, all-around family fun. This year’s Week of the Young Child is next week: April 15-21, 2018! Here are some ways we will be celebrating the Week of the Young Child next week at High Hopes!

Construction has been underway for some time now, but there’s a lot going on that can’t be seen from the front of our current building – more construction taking place on the south side of the preschool, behind the clinic, and even underground! If you’re not in the construction business (and we definitely aren’t!), it can be difficult to tell just how much is getting done.  So we pulled together some information for you that can hopefully provide a little insight into just how far we’ve come since things really got rolling last October.

Sporting the largest community-built playground in the United States, the Crofts’ Historic Home available for seasonal tours, and several dynamic and interactive exhibits with a diverse population of animals, the Zoo continues to up the ante of its offerings.  Newer exhibits such as spider monkeys, the interactive Kangaroo Kickabout, and cassowary enclosures continue to be popular among Zoo-goers of all ages. Most recently, on March 15th, the Zoo cut the ribbon on a large addition featuring Andean bears. In the month of April, the Zoo will be offering several unique opportunities for family springtime fun, and that’s what we will highlight in this post.  Consider making plans to attend one or more of these awesome community events at the Nashville Zoo!

Happy Easter from High Hopes!

Spring is in the air and we are so excited to see what this new season has in store for us!

Thanks to all the families who contributed Easter eggs for us to fill with goodies.  Thanks to your donations, we had plenty of eggs to go around and we filled them all with love (and chocolate)!

Thanks to all the volunteers who hid the eggs and helped with the hunts.  We couldn't have pulled it off without you, nor would we have wanted to!  Our volunteers are such a huge part of what we do, not just for special events like our Easter egg hunts, but also throughout the year.  Thank you to everyone who volunteers their time and their smiles to our events, our classrooms, our clinic, our clubs and camps, and so much more!  We love you and we can't thank you enough!
