JOB TITLE: Director of Education


REPORTS TO: Executive Director

High Hopes Development Center is a 35-year-old non-profit organization that loves, nurtures, and educates children helping each child reach their maximum potential. The mission of High Hopes Development Center is to equip children, youth, and their families with the skills necessary to achieve success through education, therapeutic services, and loving support. High Hopes is the only school in Williamson County with a pediatric therapy clinic on site. High Hopes was voted as one of the Top Workplaces in the Nashville metropolitan area in 2016 and 2017.

Job Overview:

The Director of Education will provide instructional leadership and administration which will motivate instructional and support personnel to strive for superior performance. The director will coordinate the curriculum and provide a happy and safe place for preschool and kindergarten children to learn, laugh, play and grow.


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Special Education, or Educational Leadership with at least 3-5 years of education experience

  • Energetic, confident, self-motivated individual

  • Experience with young children with and without special needs

  • U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the United States

  • Hold a valid TN driver’s license

  • TN Teaching Certification


  • Full Time, Exempt




Direct Supervision of Education Staff

  • Hire, train, and manage educational staff

  • Maintain substitute list and provide coverage when needed

  • Conduct performance reviews and help employees develop plans of action to improve performance

  • Oversee employee paid time off

  • Motivate and inspire employees and students

  • Implement staff development based on needs assessments and current trends in education

Daily School Operations

  • Oversee tours to prospective families, maintain school referral and waiting list, and enroll new children

  • Oversee classroom enrollments-intake packets, teacher conference, classroom placement, etc.

  • Monitor physical environment to ensure Department of Education (DOE) standards and optimal safety for all children

  • Monitor DOE Teacher/Child Ratio

  • Oversee all special events for school (holidays, graduation, open house, special programming)

  • Develop and oversee curriculum

  • Maintain DOE standards for school/Attend all Pertinent DOE training

  • Oversee medication dispersion and medication log according to DOE/state standards

  • Oversee communication to parents


Administrative Operations of Education Department

  • Oversee monthly/annual reports

  • Complete any requested managerial reports to Executive Director

  • Prepare and monitor education budget

  • Oversee student files including immunizations according to DOE/State Department Standards

  • Oversee school Family Database including emergency transportation plans, emergency numbers, and allergies

  • Oversee school inventory


Relationships with Families

  • Develop open line of communication by greeting parents/establishing rapport

  • Coordinate and implement Individualized Preschool Plan (IPP)/Individualized Kindergarten Plan (IKP) meetings 2 times per year for children with special needs

  • Produce departmental material for newsletter

  • Coordinate parent/teacher meetings

  • Maintain School Parent Handbook

  • Oversee effective intake meetings


Organizational Responsibilities

  • Act as a liaison between High Hopes' Pediatric Therapy Clinic and Inclusive School

  • Schedule and implement team meetings with staff for each student

  • Represent High Hopes at community meetings

  • Maintain current First Aid and CPR certification and State Licensure

  • Initiate/Participate in applicable research studies
