What is Integrated Learning?

What does integrated learning look like at High Hopes?

Therapists, including Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Board-Certified Behavior Analysts, Physical Therapists, and Feeding Therapists, are embedded directly into our classrooms. These specialists run developmentally appropriate small groups throughout the week, targeting key skill areas where young children benefit from structured support. They also provide enrichment activities for advanced learners, extending their skills in meaningful ways. All children benefit from this integrated approach regardless of their developmental level, creating a truly inclusive environment.

Integrated Learning in Action

  • OTs implement fine motor groups, targeting grasp patterns, scissor use, and sensory regulation.

  • SLPs lead language groups, developing vocabulary, comprehension, and social communication.

  • BCBAs conduct social-emotional groups, teaching feelings, sharing, and self-regulation.

  • PTs ensure accessibility in classroom and playground environments.

  • FTs encourage participation during meal and snack times.

Partnership with Teachers

The role of therapists in the classroom can include:
  • Partnering to create classroom layouts that improve flow, accessibility, and reduce sensory overload

  • Embedding visual schedules and communication tools for all learners

  • Equipping teachers with strategies to embed therapeutic techniques into daily activities

  • Establishing predictable routines

  • Developing individualized behavior support plans when needed

Benefits for Children

How does an integrated learning environment benefit children’s development?

An integrated learning environment brings educational and therapeutic supports together in powerful ways. High Hopes teachers are experts in preacademic skills, while embedded therapists help identify and support developmental differences early. Through this model, skills are nurtured within natural classroom routines and experiences, combining the social engagement and structured learning of preschool with targeted therapeutic support—creating an environment where all children thrive.
